Share Market LIVE: Sensex extends losses, down 550 pts, Nifty hovers around 16200

“Hawkish stance by the Fed, rate hikes by RBI, Bank of England and Australian central bank have created an atmosphere of risk-off for equities. We don't know how long this will last. Nifty corrected by 3.9 percent last week, but investors should not commit the mistake of aggressively buying on this dip assuming that prices have corrected a lot. Even after the correction, Nifty is trading at around 19 times FY23 earnings. This is higher than the long-term average of 16 times and certainly not buyable valuation, particularly when equity markets globally are facing many headwinds like risk of growth slowdown, Ukraine war and supply chain disruptions caused by stringent lockdown in China. However, long-term investors may start nibbling at high quality stocks in segments like financials where there is valuation comfort,” said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

How the Russia-Ukraine war, COVID and climate change are fuelling a growing global food crisis
2022-05-07T06:30:22Z
The farmers sleep fully clothed so they are ready to run for shelter.
Their nearby city of Mykolaiv has been the scene of fighting — bombs are falling most nights and there is no running water.
At a desk in Romania, Australian farmer Lawrence Richmond receives these updates from workers at the three wheat and sunflower farms in southern Ukraine that he manages.
Mr Richmond said the farmers, who are exempt from army conscription so food production continues, managed to fertilise the crops recently despite the difficulty of acquiring diesel in a war-torn country.
But it is impossible for Mr Richmond to know if they will be able to harvest or sell their summer crop.
"We don't really know whether there's going to be a market for our grain … and if there's a market, will they pay us? Or will it be commandeered by the Ukrainian government?" Mr Richmond said.
The war's impact on food production is travelling beyond Ukraine's borders — it is rippling across the world in the form of a global food crisis.
The disruption of wheat and other staple food exports from Ukraine and Russia has sent already high global food prices skyrocketing.
According to the UN's World Food Programme (WFP), Russia and …

Kerala high court sets aside order on diesel supply at retail price to KSRTC - Hindustan Times
2022-05-07T00:39:46Z
A division bench of Kerala High Court on Friday allowed an appeal filed by the state-run oil marketing companies (OMCs) and set aside its earlier order asking them to provide fuel at retail rates to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC).
A bench comprising Justices C S Dias and Basant Balaji said KSRTC, a bulk purchaser, falls within a separate class and cannot be treated at par with retail customers.
A single bench of the Kerala High Court had on April 13 said the the price of diesel charged by OMCs from the KSRTC was prima facie “highly exorbitant” and asked them to provide the fuel at retail rates to the latter.
Citing various orders, the division bench on Friday said “it is not the function or forte of this Court” to decide the optimal or competitive price at which diesel should be sold to the KSRTC.
The division bench accepted the contention of the OMCs that the KSRTC “cannot be treated at par with retail customers” because the latter would have to go to a retail outlet and pay for the product then and there.
“On the contrary, petroleum products are supplied to the petitioner at their doorsteps, with credit facilities and other …
Diesel at market rate: KSRTC suffers setback | Kochi News - Times of India

KOCHI: The Kerala high court on Friday set aside an interim order issued by a single bench directing oil-marketing companies to provide diesel in bulk to Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) at the rate levied at retail outlets in the state.A division bench comprising justice CS Dias and justice Basant Balaji set aside the interim order after considering appeals filed by the oil-marketing companies. The single bench had termed the practice of levying a higher rate for supplying diesel to KSRTC as highly exorbitant and prima facie an unconscionable term of bargain. The oil-marketing companies had contended that the pricing is based on agreement and there is an arbitration clause in the agreement. Subsidy and concession are matters of policy and the court should not interfere, they had argued.KSRTC had contended that the companies are levying Rs121.35 per litre for the high-speed diesel (HSD) it is using whereas the market rate was only Rs91.72 per litre on March 18th, which was the date of filing the petition at the high court. KSRTC requires around 300-400 kilo litres of HSD per day to ply 5,481 buses. The rate levied was lower than market rate but a higher rate is being levied since …
