WPP and Epic Games team up to grow metaverse offering - Marketing Interactive

WPP and Epic Games have partnered to help WPP agencies deliver digital experiences for client brands in the metaverse. As part of this collaboration, WPP teams will work closely with Epic Games to learn how to build next-generation interactive experiences leveraging Unreal Engine, a real-time 3D creation tool used across a range of industries such as games, film, architecture, fashion, automotive, music and live events, for virtual production.

With this new training programme upskilling WPP creatives and technologists, they will be able to create new, custom experiences and build imaginative worlds for brands inside online games such as Fortnite. The new metaverse curriculum offers three separate tracks of learning for executives, creative practitioners, and media experts and strategists.

PropertyGuru Group has appointed Adrian Tan (pictured) as director of marketing operations, reporting to CMO and MD, fintech, Bjorn Sprengers. In his new role, Tan is responsible for establishing digital marketing strategies and driving operations that address unique opportunities across four of PropertyGuru’s five markets, namely, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

Tan will also focus on the Group's leadership in engaging market share and bolstering value creation by acquiring quality audiences and generating quality leads to support customers. This week, the online community Peanut released a gallery of illustrations that aims to accurately represent the diversity of women and their bodies within the medical field, retail giant Ikea partnered with WWF for its Swedish Seedballs campaign and Erdinger welcomed Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp back as its brand ambassador.

Girish Menon takes on global role at GroupM Nexus - Marketing Interactive

Girish Menon has been appointed chief operating officer, global teams at GroupM Nexus. In this new role, he manages the unit's offshore delivery hubs in India, Latin America, and Poland, according to his LinkedIn. GroupM Nexus was formed last month comprising Finecast, Xaxis, and GroupM Services, and is led by global CEO Nicolas Bidon.

Menon was previously VP, client development APAC, GroupM Services for three years. In that role, he ensured the team had the required leadership and resources in the local markets to leverage its global infrastructure and serve the needs of GroupM's account teams and their clients. Before that, he was VP, client development, APAC, [m]PLATFORM, responsible for setting up local market client engagement capability.

He was also CEO, GroupM Malaysia for seven years and MD of GroupM Vietnam for close to two years. During his time in Malaysia, he built the agency's growth strategy and migrated it from a traditional media planning and buying agency to focus on the emerging digital platforms of that time, his LinkedIn said. But with radio now in its traditionally strongest revenue billing months, the heads of the three big ad agency holding companies have some welcome news – budgets are not being cut as marketers still see plenty of opportunities in 2022.

“We are at a moment of elevated global uncertainty across multiple dimensions, whether geopolitical, macroeconomic or in terms of public health. These are part of the current reality facing every company today,” said Interpublic Group CEO Philippe Krakowsky. “Despite these uncertainties, the tone of the business remains positive.”

At IPG, with a roster that includes media buying shops Initiative, Magna, The Martin Agency, Campbell Ewald, and Hill Holliday, Krakowsky said during a conference call with analysts that they had “very strong growth” during the first quarter in their media segment and that is likely to continue.

Krakowsky said each subsequent wave of the pandemic has been “less disruptive” to advertisers. “We’ve spent time with clients,” he said. “The environment for the moment -- with the caveat that there are some uncertainties out there -- is still very active.”
